New Signing - Eloïse Heinzer!
19 March 2025
I've been working in a shared studio with 8 other artists (illustrators, animators, visual artists) for a year now. It's located in a brownfield site rehabilitated as a creative center in Saint-Denis, near Paris. There are 250 residents in the building, and lots of artistic activities and events, so it's very stimulating.
I really like this very bright place, where exchanges between my fellow artists are rich (and sometimes lead to beautiful collaborations).
If I had to imagine another place to work, I'd be tempted by Japan (all the objects seem to be adorned with incredible graphics, and the culture and food are very appealing to me).
My grandfather started drawing when he retired and I loved watching him paint. My parents and my brother have always loved drawing too, but no one in my family has made a career of it. So despite my family's attraction to drawing, I'm still on the fringe of the family for wanting to make it my professional activity!
When I was young I tried all the drawing techniques (pencil, felt-tip pens, ink, acrylic, etc.) and I really liked trying new things. But some colors and materials ended up pleasing me more and I concentrated on this track that I liked a lot (felt-tip pens, the use of blues, contrasts in a few colors). And little by little a graphic coherence gradually appeared. But I do not close the door at all to potential evolutions of style. I've also had several supportive teachers over the years. They were invaluable in helping me get started in this field, and two of them are still very close friends with whom I often talk.
I have to admit that I really enjoy the diversity of my job, whether it's illustrations for the press, publishing or specific commissions for brands or municipalities. I loved doing a mural recently, inspired by Gisèle Pélicot, where I experimented with a new format and where the message conveyed was important to me and made a lot of sense in a public space.
One thing I'd really like to do is create illustrations for ceramic tableware. I worked for 10 years in a design studio where I was sometimes assigned tableware collections, but it was always with a very specific brief, which didn't necessarily reflect my style. Now that I'm self-employed, I'd love to be able to offer illustrations that match my work with tableware brands like "Gien," for example, where the quality of the objects is incredible. Maybe one day?
Also, I've never worked in the music industry before, but the combination of these two disciplines (music and illustration) is often very powerful. Whether it's illustrating albums, creating an animated music video, or even live concert performances, these are things I'd really enjoy. And so, which artists... French female singers like Camille, Clara Luciani, Pomme, or more international ones like the incredible Agnès Obel.
I really like to sketch in my notebook what surrounds me, so the landscapes, the people, the styles, all surely have a French touch. And after all that is reflected in my work!
