New Artist: Richard O'Neill
28 April 2026
Joining the CIA ranks is Richard O’Neill, one of the country’s most respected travel illustrators. Raised in Bradford and now based near Richmond in North Yorkshire, he's a digital artist specialising in contemporary landscapes inspired by classic twentieth century travel art

A strong sense of place is extremely important to his work and although created digitally all his artwork is hand drawn, giving it a unique human element that compliments the clean, vivid style. His award winning designs have featured internationally in books and magazines, large-scale art installations and ad campaigns.

He's worked with numerous organisations over the years including English Heritage, the National Trust, Beamish Museum and many others. After drawing literally thousands of pictures over the last decade and a half, these days he has a soft spot for anything new which pushes him outside the traditional “travel art” genre.

"I’m currently illustrating a series of children’s books about vehicles called “Where Are You Going Today?” so that gives me lots of opportunities to try out different things!"

More from Richard in his folio.
