Charlotte Day brings the atmosphere...

Charlotte Day is rightfully very respected by the commissioners of art in the publishing world, her ability to create illustrations to give a title a special edge when sitting next to its peers in a shopfront, be that physical or virtual, knows no bounds. Today we bring you a selection of recent creations that hit with a slightly darker edge, fitting for this month.

"This is the land where they kill Queens…” so says the bloodthirsty subtitle of this cover for Kate Foster’s The King's Witches released earlier this year. Followed by a gorgeous cover for Jaap Robben which, while featuring a beautiful study of a moth, frankly triggers unsettling memories of The Silence of the Lambs for us lot at CIA HQ as Halloween approaches… And finally a quite justifiable reminder that not every design makes it to the bookshelves even when it’s as lovely as this one, in this case a recoloured version that Charlotte created for her own creative satisfaction in a moodier palette than the original drafts.

"As somewhat of a bibliophile I find creating book covers particularly rewarding. Whether it's finding the perfect colour palette to capture the mood or balancing aesthetics with storytelling, I love bringing everything together into a design that resonates with the narrative. The goal is always to capture the essence of the story and create covers that will intrigue and draw readers in but, I also aim for each book to be a beautiful object in its own right."
